This comforting apple cider is super easy to make! My kids love this hot drink. You can do it as you please: more or less sweet. Here is my healthy version.

This recipe is a great opportunity to discover the star anise, this beautiful spice that few of us are used to consuming! It can also be used to season a good Chinese fondue broth.

Did you know that?

The star anise is also called Chinese star anise. It’s the fruit of the badian tree, a Chinese tree!

Keep your apples!

Whenever you eat an apple or cook a pie or a crisp, consider freezing your apple cores. You’ll use them in this cider recipe! No waste!

Steps

1
Done

Place the water, apple hearts (with a little flesh around if possible), the star anise, the cinnamon stick in a small pot.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low to simmer.
Simmer, with the lid to limit the evaporation of the liquid, for 20 minutes.

2
Done

Close the round and pass the contents of the pot through a sieve to keep only the cider.

3
Done

Add maple syrup and mix well. Serve hot with a cinnamon stick in the cup to make it pretty.
