Ingredients

Adjust Servings:
150 g (150 g = 1/3 of a block) extra firm tofu
1 tsp (1 tsp = 5 ml) ground cumin
of 1/2 fruit lemon juice
1/4 cup (1/4 cup = 1 handful) fresh cilantro
1 tsp (1 tsp = 5 ml) maple sugar or other sugar or honey
1 big cloves of garlic
1 tsp (1 tsp = 5 ml) canola oil
to taste salt

This cilantro, cumin and lemon tofu is a go to in my kitchen! Tofu with soy sauce is great, but I got tired of it! Try something fresh and new! I like to serve this tofu over sauted peppers and onions or beans.

Tofu = soy

Tofu is made from unfermented condensed soy milk. It can be cooked many ways and is a great source of plantbased proteins. Discover other tofu recipes here.

I like to choose organic or non GMO tofu. Even better: local tofu! We have tofu producers right here in Canada. Did you know that? Amazing!

Marinate in advance?

Not necessary. I love this recipe even when I prepare it on the spot. But you may mariante your tofu a few hours in advance.

MARINADE

Rince, dry and chop cilantro. Make it very thinly chopped.

In a bowl, extract the juice of half a lemon.

Add the pressed garlic.

Add maple sugar, canola oil, salt and cumin. Mix well.

PREPARATION AND COOKING

Cut a block of tofu of 150 grams. Dry in out in a clean kitchen towel. Press it with your hands to remove extra water.

Cut the tofu into small 2 centimeters cubes.

Place cubes into marinade and stir. Let marinate for 5 minutes. You may marinate the tofu several hours, but it's not necessary.

Heat a non sticking pan to medium high intensity. Spray a bit of canola oil. Once the pan is very hot, place tofu on it. Make sure to let them cook 3 minutes before turning them.

When you flip them over, do so very gently and ideally only once. Do not stir the tofu during the cooking process in order to obtain a great and even golden crust and avoid ruining the shape of your cubes. Serve with sauted veggies of your choice.
